Dawn R. Hall

Greetings and Salutations!

My name is Dawn Hall and I am your instructor for this course (yes, Dawn works great for me!).  I look forward to meeting and talking to each of you and I hope you enjoy our time together.

I have been teaching Sociology for 4 years and love it!  I teach many of the courses taught in the Sociology, Geography, and Social Work Department, so you might see me in other Sociology courses as you continue your education here at Sinclair Community College.

My teaching career started at Sinclair Community College when I went back to college in Sept. of 1998.  I originally majored in Forensic Psychology.  One of my first general education courses was Sociology, and I was hooked!  :O)  After that one course I loved the science of Sociology and proceeded to take all the other Sociology courses and graduated with an Honors Associates of Applied Sciences in Community Based Corrections with a Sociology emphasis.  I continued my education at Wright State University receiving a Bachelor in Sociology and a Masters in Applied Behavioral Sciences.  Teaching pretty much "fell" into my lap.  I originally had a Research Assistantship at WSU, but one of the instructors I was doing research for had an emergency and asked me to teach one of her courses.  Again, I was hooked!  I enjoyed being in the classroom and have been there ever since.  I have recently been interested in Online Teaching and Course Development and plan to continue my education in this area.

On a more personal note, I am a single mom with 2 teenage girls, and yes, I am still sane..for the most part!  :O)    I enjoy many activities such as the POOL, festivals, and volunteering.  I currently volunteer in both of my children's schools and Relay for Life

So, welcome to Sociology and I hope you enjoy it is much as I do.  A colleague once told me that once you take a Sociology course, you never see the world the same again and I thoroughly believe that is a true statement.  Here is to a new world view!  :O)
