Middle School Science Teachers

Recent Visits

Check This out: If you are a middle school science teacher in Montgomery county and would like to plan a day of science related activities at Sinclair give us a call or send us an e-mail. The physics department is actively seeking interaction with local science teachers in an effort to share the college's resources and expertise with fellow science educators. We want to do our part to help improve the overall quality of local science education.

What does Sinclair Have to offer?

  • Well equipped labs. Several are equipped with computers for data acquisition and analysis and/or internet use.
  • Knowledgeable faculty who are well versed in active learning pedagogies Your students can experience both the facts of science and the process of discovery central to scientific investigation..
  • A large selection of demonstration and lab apparatus.
  • A growing list of activities covering many areas of physics.

A Typical visit to Sinclair lasts about two hours and involves a class of 20-30 students.. During this time students work, in groups, on hand-on activities. Sessions are led, in cooperation with you, by one or more college faculty members. We try our best to coordinate these activities with your curriculum needs. If you are working on energy at the time of your visit, for example, we'll put together energy related activities. If you are doing electricity, we'll put together electricity activities etc.. The feasibility of all this depends on a number of constraints (equipment etc.) but we usually can design something relevant.

Our labs can seat about 25 students working in groups of 3-5 students each. Larger class sizes (>35) can be handled by using multiple rooms and/or by coordinating with other science departments when possible. Our ability to handle larger classes is definitely a function of room availability and other constraints, but we still welcome the opportunity to work with you if we can handle the logistics. It is also possible to arrange for lunch in our cafeteria for groups staying through the noon hour.

Transportation to Sinclair for most groups occurs via school buses. Campus security can arrange for a parking spot near the building that houses the physics department. Smaller groups sometimes use vans and/or cars to transport students to the college, and in these cases we provide free parking in our parking garage.
