About MeWelcome to the home page of Flo Wolfe Sharp at Sinclair Community College!
I am a Distance Learning Web Course Facilitator working with the Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology faculty. We have a grant from the Ohio Learning Network to place the EET curriculum on the Web, which will enable students to complete an Associate of Applied Science degree entirely through distance learning. I started at Sinclair in May 2003 after an 8-year long career as a freelance information developer. Since early 1999, I had worked with a major telecommunications company developing courseware for their internal online university. That was my introduction to eLearning and distance education. It quickly became my passion. Online courses make educational opportunities available to anyone who has access to a computer. That possibility excites me, because so many people let education pass them by because they cannot attend traditional classes. Distance learning options can change that. Since I've been at Sinclair, I've developed a new interest in making Web courses accessible to our students with disabilities. Not only does the law say we need to make Web courses accessible, but it's simply the right thing to do. According to the US Census Bureau, about 20% of the population has some sort of disability. We must assume responsibility to make sure those people have equal access as the other 80% of us. To help faculty and staff create accessible Web courses and content, I have created a list of resources. In the future, I'll be adding information about courses and other educational resources that are available. If you have a resource to suggest, please email me at flo.sharp@sinclair.edu.
