I began my career in the healthcare field by starting Wright State University in 1974 and received a degree in Medical Technology, after completing my degree, I began working at Good Samaritan Hospital as a third shift blood bank technician. This short career was followed by attending Medical School at Wright State University School of Medicine where I was in the third graduating class from this new medical school, a three-year residency in Family Practice at St. Elizabeth Medical Center here in Dayton followed medical school. My career as a medical doctor began in 1985 when I joined a retiring physician at the corner of Wayne and Wyoming, since this time I have made several moves to relocate my practice and now have my Family Practice office in Beavercreek.
I have always felt that I would enjoy teaching since patient education and preventative medicine has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my medical practice. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to join the part-time faculty at Sinclair Community College and find that I enjoy this very much; in 2007, I joined Sinclair Community College as a full-time associate professor in the Department of Allied Health Instruction. Since I continue to have a medical practice, I keep current with medical therapies and tend to focus my teaching toward real live scenarios pertinent to most of my student's areas of interest.
I have two main hobbies, which are photography and woodworking. I have been interested in photography since I was a child. My father was an Air Force photographer during World War II and continued to enjoy photography as a hobby once home from the war. My kids get tired of me taking pictures constantly so I have begun to do more landscape photography. Most of my photos are digital that way I can adjust them and be a little more creative, I usually use Adobe PhotoShop® to enhance my photos. Lately I have become interested in digital infrared photography. The photo to the right is one I took while I was on vacation in South Carolina; it is an infrared photo of a plantation home. Notice that in black & white infrared the grass and leaves on the trees appear as white because they give off infrared light. My interest in woodworking has developed as an adult and I find that I enjoy making smaller detailed wooden items such as clocks and small boxes.
My latest projects are to update the ALH142 course with a new edition of the textbook. ALH220 is also undergoing a redesign which is explained further on the ALH220 page and finally ALH141 will be modified to a hybrid course...
