Individuals get a permit to chop wood and stack it by the road to dry. They cut wood in winter and use a Skedoo (sled) to drag the wood to the road. Each pile is owned by an individual and nobody else bothers it. These can be seen for miles and miles along the highway.

Lobster fishermen gather wood and build their traps. They are stacked by the roads like this along the coast.
